Yobe, Sokoto Governors Declare Public Holiday In Honour Of Former President Buhari

Yobe State governor, Dr. Mai Mala Buni, has declared today, Tuesday, July 15,2025, a work-free day to mourn the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor made this announcement in a statement issued by the Director General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed on Monday.

Governor Buni urged workers and the people of Yobe State to dedicate the day to praying for the repose of the late president’s soul while urging Imams to lead prayers in their respective mosques for the late president and the country.

‘The late president’s contribution to restoring security in Yobe State and the North East region is immeasurable, and he deserves this special honor from the people of the state’ he said.

Governor Buni described the late president as a great patriot who dedicated his life to working for Nigeria’s unity and progress while calling him a disciplinarian, a leader with integrity, and a leader with a passion for national development.

The governor prayed that Allah will forgive the late president’s shortcomings and grant his soul Jannatul Firdausi.

Governor Buni extended his condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the family of the late former president, the Katsina State government, the Daura Emirate, and Nigerians in general, over the huge loss.

The State Executive Council also on Monday held a special prayer session for the late president instead of its regular weekly meeting.
