National Anthem : I’ll Never Join Them To Sing ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’–Obby Ezekwesili

Former Minister for Education, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili, has submitted that she would continue to sing ‘Arise, O Compatriots’ the national anthem that had been in use since 1978, and not the old national anthem, that was composed when Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960.
Mrs. Obiageli has also asserted that she will never join other Nigerians to sing ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier today assented to the National Anthem Bill 2024 reverting to the old national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’ .
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Ezekwesili , who made her position known via a post on X ,on Wednesday, noted that no one can suppress her right to dissent from what she has called ‘obnoxious law’ which she also claimed is repugnant to all who are of good conscience in the country.
‘Let it be known to all and sundry that I, Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili, will, whenever asked to sing the Nigerian National Anthem, sing: ‘1. Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey
To serve our fatherland
With love and strength and faith
The labour of our heroes past
Shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.
2. Oh God of creation, direct our noble cause
Guide our leader’s right
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace and justice reign’ she wrote-
