National Anthem: ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee’ Returns, ‘Arise, O Compatriots’ Gone For Good As President Tinubu Signs New Bill Into Law

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assented to the National Anthem Bill 2024 reverting to the old national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’ and the one that had been in use since 1978, ‘Arise, O Compatriots’, is now gone for good.
The old national anthem, that was composed when Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960, has replaced the current anthem that was introduced during the military administration headed by retired General Olusegun Obasanjo,.
‘This morning, Mr. President signed into an Act of Parliament, the newly passed National Anthem 2024’ the Senate President, Barrister Godswill Akpabio, said gleefully during the joint session of the National Assembly marking the Silver Jubilee Of Nigeria’s 4th Republic on Wednesday.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that President Tinubu, who later joined the joint session, also confirmed that ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’ is now the ‘national anthem’ while Akpabio added that the event was primarily designed to serve as a platform to launch the new national anthem.
The Senate and the House of Representatives had earlier in the week passed the National Anthem Bill 2024 to revert to the old national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’ into law.
