NCS: Najeem Ogundeyi Gets Off To A Good Start As Kwara Area Command Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth N1.2b In Less Than 1 Month
DC Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi, who took over as head of the Kwara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ilorin, mid-December last year, has gotten off to a good start.
Presiding over his maiden press conference at the headquarters of the state command on Tuesday which was attended by journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com, DC Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi announced seizure of smuggled goods worth N1,219,209,369 in less than one month!





‘Within this short period, the Area Command has successfully intercepted and seized various consignments of prohibited and improperly imported goods. These seizures were made through diligent patrols, credible intelligence, and sustained enforcement operations across our area of responsibility.
The seized items include, but are not limited to:
1. 389 bales of second-hand clothing
2. 108 sacks of used bags
Both items were intercepted around Ogbomosho- Eiyenkorin express way, Kwara State at about 0434hrs.
3. 6,500 litres of PMS intercepted at various patrol bases along border lines in Bukuro axis.
4. 450 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each intercepted at various patrol bases along border lines in Okuta axis.
5. Three (3) vehicles;
A new Toyota Land cruiser jeep VX 2025 model and a new Lexus jeep LX 600, 2025 model that were intercepted in Bode Saadu area of Kwara State.
A Mercedes Benz GLE350 2016 Model that was intercepted in the Okuta axis of Kwara State. The vehicles are kept in custody for further investigation and action.
170 pieces of used tyres intercepted along Lagos/Jebba Express way.
The Total Duty Paid Value (DPV) for the above seizures is put at One Billion, Two Hundred and Nineteen Million, Two Hundred and Nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixty-Nine naira (N1,219,209,369)’ he said.
DC Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi, who noted that the seizures he announced clearly demonstrated that smuggling activities will not be tolerated on his watch, warned that anyone who gets involved in such illegal acts will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He also noted that he had on assumption of duty made it clear that the Kwara Area Command will operate strictly in line with the Customs Act 2023 while making professionalism, intelligence-driven operations, and zero tolerance for compromise the guiding principles.
Submitting that the Nigeria Customs Service is not ‘an enemy of the people’, he urged stakeholders and members of the public to continue to support the security agency by ensuring that they provide timely and credible information.
