New Minimum Wage: Kwara Tertiary Institution Workers Hold Intercessory Prayer Service In Ilorin

New Minimum Wage: Kwara Tertiary Institution Workers Hold Intercessory Prayer Service In Ilorin

Non -academic staff of tertiary institutions in Kwara State held an intercessory prayer service at the Jumah Mosque and the Chapel of the state College of Education, Ilorin on Friday.

State-owned tertiary institutions in the state include Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin, Kwara State College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, Kwara State College of Education, Oro, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, and the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.

The tertiary institution workers gathered to pray for a divine intervention in respect of the implementation of the N70,000 new minimum wage by the state government.

The prayer service which was organized by the Committee of Unions in Tertiary Institutions (CUTI) had ‘God should Touch the Heart of our Leaders  to pay us the New Minimum Wage and ease our pains’ as the ‘prayer point’.

Islamic clerics, who presided over the prayer service at the jumat mosque, urged patience and resilience citing how prophets including Yusuf, Ayyub and others had challenges but later got rescued from their respective precarious situations.

In an interview with Team@orientactualmags.com, Comrade Musa Mustapha, who is the Chairman, Committee of Unions in Tertiary Institutions, Kwara State, explained the purpose of the intercessory prayer service.

Comrade Musa Mustapha

‘ We have gathered here today to pray  and  request God who has the ultimate power to solve problems to lift every burden off our shoulders  due to the hardship we’ve been experiencing since the removal of petrol subsidy , things have not been easy and we have not been getting our salary at the colleges as it should be.

Our salary have come  in percentages due to one problem or the other, even when the government gave palliatives to people, our colleges were not considered despite  the economic situation.

That is why within our human capacity, we have gathered to make request to necessary quarters in government but we are yet to get positive results this made us  to resort to taking our matters to Almighty God to help speak to the conscience of the leaders, though they are doing their best but our colleges are yet to benefit from it’ he said.

Comrade Musa Mustapha also urged the current administration in the state to prioritize the welfare of tertiary institution workers in the state .

‘We want to enjoy the recent minimum wage  that the government of Kwara State  began to implement last month, the core civil servants are already beneficiaries, we want them to also implement that of the Colleges of education, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, and other tertiary institutions because workers don’t feel hungry differently, we feel hungry the same way, so, when a group of people are considered, others should be considered as well.

We are praying that God will intervene and we are appealing to the government to consider us and do the needful to ease the sufferings of our people, may God Almighty speak to the mind of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ forum. He is doing his best to put a smile on the faces of all workers but we’re still expecting, we pray that God Almighty will continue to guide His Excellency and support him to lift the education sector in Kwara State to greater heights.

Anytime the government commences the payment, we want them to also bear in mind that our arrears must be looked into because what is good for the goose is good for the gander’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com   Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
