The Committee of Unions in Tertiary Institutions (CUTI), Kwara State, has directed members of the union, who are non -teaching staff of tertiary institutions in the state, to embark on a 3-day warning strike from December 4th to 6th, 2024.
State-owned tertiary institutions in the state include Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin, Kwara State College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, Kwara State College of Education, Oro, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Kwara State International Aviation College, and the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.
A communiqué issued at the end of an emergency congress held by the union at the Kwara State College of Education , Ilorin on Saturday ,which was jointly signed by Comrade Musa Mustapha, Chairman , and Comrade Haruna Ndako Ndagi , Secretary, and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that the decision to embark on a warning strike was part of the resolutions of the emergency congress in question.
‘The Congress, held on 30th November, 2024 at the Kwara State College Of Education, Ilorin, deliberated on the next line of action following the Kwara State Government’s refusal to pay workers of state-owned tertiary institutions the approved new national minimum wage for the second month after the commencement of implementation for other segments of workers in the state.
Congress Resolutions:
Peaceful Demonstrations: CUTI will lead a peaceful demonstration at all the tertiary institutions to alert the general public about the plight of workers at the institutions on Tuesday, 3rd December, 2024.
Three-Day Warning Strike: CUTI will embark on a three-day warning strike at all the state-owned tertiary institutions from December 4th to 6th, 2024, to protest the state government’s inaction on the matter.
Indefinite Strike Action: The Strike will continue indefinitely if the government fails to commence full implementation with the two months arrears of the new national minimum wage on or before Monday, December 9th, 2024.
These resolutions were considered necessary after a series of letters and ultimatums sent to the Kwara State Government, including those dated October 4th, 2024, October 21st, 2024, and November 7th, 2024, which had urged the government to implement the new Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS) and the new national minimum wage.
