Nigeria Loses 2 ‘Important’ Nonagenarian Politicians In 4 Days…NGF Offers Condolences

Chief Edwin Clark, a former senator, a prominent Ijaw leader and a one-time Minister for Information, is dead.
He died at the ripe old age of 97.
Clark had died just four days after the death of a nonagenarian politician, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who was a prominent leader of Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization.
He died on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 96.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) in a statement made available to Team@oruentactualmags.com by its Chairman, who is the governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq described the passing of the two nonagenarians as ‘a huge depletion in the ranks of outstanding voices who were never afraid to offer their views on issues of national importance’.
‘The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) joins President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and every stakeholder in the Nigerian project to mourn the passing of two great statesmen, Pa Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Edwin Clark, CON.
The death of the nonagenarians is a huge depletion in the ranks of outstanding voices who were never afraid to offer their views on issues of national importance.
The Forum recalls that the duo played critical roles in the evolution of the country’s democracy, constitutional development, and the discourse around its federal system vis-a-vis topical issues of resource control and the rights of ethnic minorities.
The NGF sends its heartfelt condolences to the people and governments of Southwest and South-South, especially Ogun and Delta States, and to the families of the statesmen on these sad developments.
