Nigerian Politicians Don’t ‘Keep Their Word’… Violation Of Trust Has Become A Norm…Why I Lost Re-election In 2015-Jonathan
Former President Goodluck Jonathan did a post mortem of the 2015 presidential election on Thursday noting that its negative outcome was as a result of violation of trust on the part of politicians.
Recall that Dr Goodluck Jonathan had in 2015 sought to get re-elected but failed to win re-election as late General Muhammadu Buhari made history by becoming the first person to defeat a sitting president in the country.
The former president lamented that ‘betrayal’ has become the usual, expected, and accepted standard among politicians in the country while noting however that Chief Mike Ogiadomhe is an exception.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Dr Goodluck Jonathan ,who said this during the event held to mark the 70th birthday of Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, noted that the birthday celebrant, a one-time deputy governor of Edo State, who also served as his Chief of Staff, is a loyal ally.
‘I became the president, then post-Presidency, one of the few friends who would give up their necks for me is Mike. You know politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals.
You find it difficult to see somebody who will say the same thing in the morning and in the evening. I’ve witnessed a lot of betrayals, especially in the 2015 presidential election, and Mike is somebody who would take a bullet on my behalf.
He is somebody that you can take his word to the bank, but most other politicians, you cannot take their word to the bank. They will tell you something, the next hour they are saying another thing’ he said.
Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, who represented Governor Monday Okpebholo, said he has found a role model in Ogiadomhe, and he is also building on the foundation the septuagenarian had laid as a former deputy governor.
Chief Lucky Igbinedion also submitted that he never hesitated to hand over the affairs of the state to the birthday celebrant as his deputy when he needed to travel abroad as governor of Edo State while Senator Oshiomhole said each time he had discussed politics with Mike he had made it clear that wherever Jonathan is, he would be there.
The event was attended by Chief Lucky Igbinedion, Professor Osarhiemen Osunbor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former governor Ibrahim Dakwambo, Rev. Peter Obadan and Pius Odubu, Marvellous Omobayo and other dignitaries-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us? Do you want us to cover your event or programme?
