
A ban on nighttime movements in Malete, Kwara State was announced after a ‘stakeholder meeting’ was held in the town on Monday.
It is part of the decisive measures taken to tackle off-campus robberies in the town.
Students at Kwara State University, Malete and other residents of the town are expected to turn off their generators on or before 12 am while no one is henceforth allowed to hold a night party, the Director, University Relations, KWASU, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, noted in a statement she issued in Malete on Monday and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com.

‘Okada riders have been ordered not to operate beyond 10 pm while all commercial activities and all movements are to cease at 11 p.m. All generators must be turned off by 12 a.m., and no night parties would hold in the community henceforth.
The resolution to impose restrictions was arrived at during the stakeholder meeting held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the instance of the Kwara State University management.
The meeting which had in attendance the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh and his extended management team, the Chairperson of Moro Local Government Council and some councillors in the local government, the traditional institution in the community, security agencies, the alumni association, and the Student Union body, unanimously agreed that the restrictions be imposed to curb the repeated robbery incidents in the community.
Other measures include the establishment of a joint security committee comprising officials of the University, members of Malete community, student union, and the security agencies, ensuring that all private student hostels in Malete engage security for each hostel, and the employment of professional vigilantes to complement security officers in Malete’ the statement added.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, who emphasized the importance of security for all KWASU students, added that all measures to tackle insecurity in the town would be taken.
While commending the Malete community and security agencies for their support in preventing further robbery incidents, Professor Jimoh urged everyone to be security conscious and report all suspicious movements to the security agents.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of Moro Local Government, Hajia Mariam Abdulwasiu, said the Local Government would come up with a by-law to legalize the restrictions agreed upon by the stakeholders while lauding the management of Kwara State University for being proactive.
She disclosed that the Moro Local Government would employ 10 more vigilantes who will be equipped with necessary gadgets to support the existing security structure in Malete while a transformer would also be made available to improve electricity in the community.
