Nnaji: Senate ‘Free From Blame’, Our Role Limited To Holding ‘Confirmation Hearing’-Senator Ndume

The senate only has the role of holding ‘confirmation hearing’ for nominees after the president has made cabinet nominations and therefore ‘free from blame’ if  a minister is discovered to have presented a fabricated academic qualification, Senator Ali Ndume, has submitted.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Senator Ndume, who said this while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday evening, clarified and submitted that the State Security Service is tasked with subjecting academic qualifications to scrutiny and not the senate.

 ‘We are not screening. Get this clear. Screening and confirmation hearing are two different things. Before the president sends a candidate to the Senate, there are a lot of processes, including screening him not only on certificates, but also conducting a background check by the SSS. The SSS has to clear him’ he said.

He had said this in reaction to the resignation of  Mr Geoffrey Nnaji as Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology earlier in the week.  

Recall that Nnaji had admitted to being a fake degree holder.

 ‘The matter of forgery in Nigeria is a big problem, not only restricted to the political class, but even you now, I don’t know your certificates. Everybody, all of these people have classmates. All these people, Nnaji, have classmates.

Last time the SSS brought something against somebody, and we dropped the person. So don’t say we are not doing our job.
