The National Sports Commission (NSC) has assured Nigerians that the ‘100,000 dollar reward’ announced for members of the women’s national football team will be made available to them soon.
Team@orientactualmags.com had earlier reported that the captain of Super Falcons, Rasheedat Ajibade had disclosed that the Federal Government is yet to fulfil its promise in respect of the $100,000 reward.
Recall that the Super Falcons had won the final of the 2024 African Women’s Nations Cup in Morocco a few days ago.
The match ended 3-2.
Recall also that President Bola Tinubu had bestowed national honours on all 24 Super Falcons players and the 11 coaching staff, including the head coach, Justin Madugu.
The president had promised that each of them will receive the Officer of the Order of the Niger national honour, a three-bedroom apartment under the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme, and a cash award, $100,000 (naira equivalent) for players and $50,000 for each of the coaching staff .
NSC Director-General , Bukola Olopade while appearing on Arise TV programme on Friday , said the money will be made available to the Super Falcons players soon.
‘I can confirm authoritatively that all their bonuses have been paid. I spoke with Ajibade yesterday and with the NFF, and everybody is on the same page’ Olopade submitted while noting that one or two players may not have gotten their bonuses due to banking issues with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
‘On the promise of Mr President, I can assure you that it will be paid’ he said.
