OAU Dentistry Student Commits Suicide After Failing Exam Twice
Ajibola Ibitayo, a 200 level Dentistry student at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has embarked on a voluntary trip to the great beyond.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that spokesman for the institution, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, who confirmed the incident in a statement he issued on Thursday, noted that Ibitayo, whose father is a medical doctor, committed suicide in Ejigbo, his hometown, after the department released the results of last semester examination on Wednesday.
Ibitayo, who had carryovers last year, failed again and he apparently felt disappointed that he would be made to take the examination for the third time and sadly he chose the suicide option.
It was said to be a case of suicide by intravenous injection of drugs.
‘The student, identified as Ajibola Ibitayo (Matriculation Number: DEN/2021/023), committed suicide after learning that he would be repeating Part Two for another academic year. He had already repeated the same class during the last session.
Saddened by the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, appealed to parents and guardians to help young people understand that academic setbacks are temporary and not a reason to give up on life.
He also urged students to see failure as a redirection toward eventual success and greater achievements.
