Oba Gabriel Aromolaran Crosses The Great Divide…He Was The 1st PhD Holder To Become Monarch In Nigeria…Gov Adeleke Offers Condolences

Highly intelligent and educated monarch, Oba Gabriel Aromolaran, the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland , has joined his ancestors.

Ilesha is the traditional headquarters of the Ijesha people and there are over 100 Beaded Crown Traditional Rulers in Ijesaland who are under the Owa Obokun Adimula.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that he passed away at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife on Wednesday night.

Following the passing of Oba Peter Adeniran Olatunji Agunlejika II on September 26,1981. Oba Adekunle Gabriel  Aromolaran II emerged as his successor and got announced as the 40th Owa-Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland  on February 20, 1982, while the then governor of old Oyo State, Late Chief Bola Ige presented Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment to him on Saturday, May 15, 1982.

Oba Aromolaran  was the first PHD holder to become a monarch in the country. A celebrated author, his first book, ‘Economics for West Africa’ was published in 1966, and it had his friends, Alabi Ogun and Areoye Oyebola as co-authors.

Oba Aromolaran, who was the last born of his mother, was born in October 13, 1937.

The late Oba Aromolaram, who  attended Otapete Methodist School, Ilesa,  Agbeni Methodist School ,Oke Ado Ibadan, and Ilesa Grammar School, later received Master’s Degree in Mathematical Economics and doctoral degree in Development Economics.

He  joined  the old Western Region civil service, and was already a Deputy Permanent Secretary before  voluntarily resigning  his appointment to establish Aromolaran Publishing Company Limited , Ibadan which came into being  on December 1, 1971.  He published over 100 Titles for use in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Institutions in the country and abroad.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has offered his heartfelt condolences while describing the late monarch as ‘a father figure, a pillar of support, and a teacher’ who was deeply committed to the development of Ijesaland and Osun State as a whole

He praised Oba Aromolaran for his boldness, candour, elegance, and literary energy, through which he  inspired the people during his successful reign as Owa Obokun. 

While expressing sadness at the demise of the Kabiyesi, Governor Adeleke acknowledged the late Oba’s unwavering support for his administration, even in challenging times, and appreciated his regular communication on matters of development in Ijesaland and Osun State at large.

‘Kabiyesi was a deeply selfless father, who took no prisoners when it comes to matters of development and wellbeing of the people. He was a friend of good governance, no matter the colour or the race.

The last time I was with him was the flag off of the dualisation of Brewery – Palace road project. I am glad that our late erudite scholar witnessed a new phase of development for Ijeshaland’  the governor submitted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com  by his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.

Governor Adeleke also condoled with the people of Ijesaland, the Aromolaran royal family, and the entire traditional institution in Osun State, saying, ‘We will miss him dearly, but his impact on our lives and the development of Osun State will never be forgotten’.

‘The late Oba Aromolaran was a great monarch and a respected custodian of our culture and tradition. Kabiyesi was known for his words of wisdom, courage, and selflessness.
