The Olu of Owode- Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government, Ogun state, Oba Kolawole Sowemimo, has urged traditional rulers in Yoruba land to make use of the spiritual power left by their ancestors to protect themselves from kidnappers and bandits that have been attacking people including monarchs in the Southwest states.
Recall that two traditional rulers in Ekiti state ; Oba David Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti; and Oba Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Omojola-Ekiti were killed by gunmen suspected to be kidnapers while returning from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti a few days ago.
Oba Sowemimo,, who was reacting to this incident at his palace, told journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com that attacking and killing monarchs is not only sacrilegious but also condemnable.
The journalists were led by the Publisher of Boseri – a Yoruba Newspaper that has honoured the monarch with ‘ Alayeluwa Oba Ajigbotilu of Owode Egbaland’ award,
The popular traditional ruler expressed worry that the kidnapping and killing of monarchs have continued unabated while adding that this had happened because most of the victims have abandoned Yoruba culture and traditions and have also failed to use ‘ancestral powers’ to consult and know if there will be anything that will give a sense of foreboding. before embarking on a trip.
The Owode-Egba monarch said he is not against the idea of monarchs being Christians or Muslims, but they should not however neglect the traditional ways of doing things because of foreign religions.
Oba Sowemimo made reference to Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, who was quoted as boasting that no kidnapper can abduct or kill him, noting that he wouldn’t have said this if he had not gotten strengthened spiritually and he has urged others to emulate Oba Akanbi with respect to this.
He has also called on the state Governments in Yoruba land to make provision for those who will provide security for the monarchs within and outside their palaces in order to put an end to the menace.
‘What I want us to do as traditional rulers is to take care of ourselves, you know what I am saying, we should take care of ourselves spiritually. We want the government to please give us security guards in our palace, if you see House of Rep members, senators, and other top government officials in public you see mobile police men with AK 47 providing security for them.
We need mobile policemen to provide security for us, we need it. When they(kidnappers)see uniform, mobile police, with guns the fear of attacking such a convoy will be there’ he noted.
The traditional ruler also used the opportunity to once again, apologize to his subjects, people of the state and the entire country, for abusing the naira while spraying fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde during his 13th coronation anniversary and wife’s birthday promising that such a thing would never happen again- Team@orientactualmags.com
