Offa LG APC Intraparty Conflict: A Boon For Peace Prospects As Speaker Danladi Presides Over Peace Meeting In Ilorin

Offa LG APC Intraparty Conflict: A Boon For Peace Prospects As Speaker Danladi Presides Over Peace Meeting In Ilorin

A significant development was recorded on Thursday in respect of the ongoing efforts to achieve peace and end the conflict among APC bigwigs in Offa local government, Kwara State.

A ‘peace meeting’ was held in Ilorin yesterday during which parties to the dispute were advised to sheath their swords.

Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Salihu Yakubu Danladi , who presided over the ‘peace meeting’, was said to have noted that the conflict was actually avoidable while adding that the ‘public spat’ was unnecessary.

Recall that intraparty conflict in the local government chapter of the party came into the open a few days ago when those in Senator Lola Ashiru’s camp were disallowed from holding a ‘stakeholder meeting’ at the secretariat of the party in Offa.

Senator Ashiru is the Deputy Majority Leader of the senate.

Sources however submitted that the incident at the party secretariat was one of the aftereffects of the senator’s actions and inactions.

The main thing that has somewhat promoted intra party conflict in Offa APC is ‘political ambition’ while the accentuating factor is ‘largesse’.

Senator Lola Ashiru is planning to join the 2027 Kwara State gubernatorial race while he two members of the House of Assembly from Offa local government, Hon. Ogunniyi David Oluwaseun and Hon Yusuf Abdulwaheed Gbenga are planning to retain their parliament seats.

Hon Gbenga , who represents Essa/Shawo Igboidun state constituency, is also planning to become the head of the state legislature.

There are two camps in Offa local government APC; the Lola Ashiru’ s camp which has the two state lawmakers from the local government and Kayode Adebiyi , who has joined the Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Reps race as principal members .

A source noted that while Senator Ashiru and the state lawmakers are ordinarily expected to provide money for the party’s day-to-day expenses, nothing however reportedly came from them.

Only Alhaja Muheebah Dankaka and USA- based Dr Lateef have been there for the party.

The camp opposed to that of Senator Ashiru, we learned, controls 80 percent of the party structure and it also has the commissioner from the local government, the governor’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Hon Femi Whyte, the chairman of the local government and others as principal members.

The weakness of Ashiru’s camp came into the open when they convened the ‘stakeholder meeting’ and chose the secretariat of the party as venue but were shocked to meet it under lock and key!

Fuming with anger, they condemned the action of the party officials and made threatening speeches.

Sources told Team@orientactualmags.com that the senator and the two state lawmakers had entered the bad books of the LG party officials not only because they have not been ‘supporting’ the exco, but also because the senator has never channeled the distribution of items for his empowerment programmes through them.

‘The senator and the state lawmakers acted very funny.  They should have rented a hall or use any of their residences and not the party secretariat since the party officials were not involved in the planning or the setting of agenda for the meeting.

You can see that they later went to another place to hold the meeting, and nobody disturbed them’ a source submitted.

It was also learned that most of the party leaders felt insulted that they only got invited to the meeting via WhatsApp message without prior consultation or information about the ‘meeting agenda’.

The senator and the two state lawmakers have long been disconnected from the party structure and have been dealing directly with only their supporters; and the recent development was a direct result of the disconnection-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
