Offensive Social Media Posts: Journalist Remanded In Kano, Asked To Return To Court Sept 3

A Magistrate, Ummah Kurawa, has ordered that Muktar Dahiru, a staff of Radio Nigeria, Pyramid FM, Kano, should be remanded in a correctional centre.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Muktar was arrested by the police for offensive social media posts through which he allegedly smeared Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Mr Dahiru in several Facebook posts including the audio of an interview with an opposition politician wherein he accused the governor of corruption had also asked him to allow the federal anti-corruption agencies to investigate the Novomed scandal instead of the state anti-corruption agency.
Mr Dahiru also had another post claiming that the governor’s political adviser, Anas Abba-Dala, speculated during a radio programme that Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is not a Nigerian.
He also posted an audio clip that had someone accusing the emir of pretense .and another one wherein an opposition politician, Yusuf Fasaha, accused former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of fraud.
‘When we were in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kwankwaso collected N320 million from our group for the interest and nomination forms, but he later shared the seats with the people he liked and refused to conduct primary elections. We requested a refund of our money in several meetings, but Kwankwaso refused to refund it’ Mr Fasaha had submitted.
Mr Dahiru has had charges preferred against him which bordered on criminal conspiracy, defamation of character, and intentional insult, and he was at the Magistrate Court 24 at Gyadi Gyadi, Court Road on Friday.
Mr Abba-Dala had filed a complaint against Mr Dahiru and told the police that in a facebook post ,he called him an illiterate person and also accused him of impregnating a woman.
The magistrate, Ummah Kurawa, ordered that Mr Dahiru should be remanded in a correctional facility until September 3 for his bail application hearing-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
