Ogun state House of Assembly adjourned indefinitely on Thursday.
This was sequel to the arrest of the head of the state legislature, Speaker Olakunle Oluomo earlier in the day by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) .
Team@orientactualmags.com learned Oluomo, who had planned to leave for Abeokuta to preside over a plenary session, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammad Airport , Lagos by EFCC agents.
He had since been moved to Abuja and currently undergoing custodial interrogation.
‘Yes, the House was supposed to sit today but due to one reason or the other, our sitting has been postponed until further notice’ , Chairman, House Committee on Information, Yussuf Adejojo, said.
When asked if the adjournment was as a result of the Speaker getting arrested by the EFCC, Adejojo did not deny that it was a major reason.
‘Well, it might be, but the information about the adjournment has been out before the arrest of the Speaker, but it might be because as the Speaker, he is the one that will preside over the sitting, so the adjournment might be because of this’ he said.
Oluomo was arrested in connection with a petition accusing him of misappropriation of funds.
EFCC had in June 2021 begun investigation in respect of the said petition.
The anti-graft body had in a letter requested that the House of Assembly should make information in respect of all budget appropriations and allocations of the House from May 30, 2015 to last year available.
Many had leapt to conclusions that Hon Dare Kadiri, who was impeached as Deputy Speaker after accusing Oluomo of lack of transparency with regard to management of funds belonging to the assembly, was the petitioner.
The former Deputy Speaker had also accused Oluomo of perjury alleging that he forged his signature to withdraw N50million from the Assembly’s bank account.
Kadiri was impeached in March 2021- Team@orientactualmags.com
