Ogun: Betting Agent Killed By Stray Bullet In Police Raid
A betting agent , Anuoluwapo Abiodun, has died after being hit by a stray bullet in Imala/Elega area of Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, on Friday night.
Abiodun, who owned a betting shop in front of a popular hotel in the area was about closing for the day but sadly he did not return home alive.
Some cops had reportedly carried out a raid on the hotel in question and as they were about leaving the place one of them fired a shot that killed the betting agent.
People in the area had protested and condemned their action which made them retreat into the hotel and called for reinforcement .
‘The guy (Abiodun) owned a shop opposite the hotel. The police were chasing someone or on a raid and there was an accidental discharge, the stray bullet hit the guy and the guy died immediately.
The young people in the area tried to hold down the policemen and they ran into the hotel. They had to call for reinforcement before they were able to escape later at about 11 pm. The incident happened at about 8 pm.
As they (police officers) were trying to disperse the protesting youths, they kept shooting sporadically. In fact, fear gripped everybody’ an eyewitness said.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola, who has confirmed the sad development, noted that an investigation into the incident is underway.
