Ogun Govt Planning To Demolish My Hotel, House In Sagamu-Senator Daniel…Playing Sympathy Card Unnecessary, Take Required Steps-Gov Abiodun

Ogun Govt Planning To Demolish My Hotel, House In Sagamu-Senator Daniel…Playing Sympathy Card Unnecessary, Take Required Steps-Gov Abiodun

Senator Gbenga Daniel on Saturday accused the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration of planning to demolish his private residence, hotel, and annex in Sagamu while also alleging political persecution.

Daniel, who served as governor of Ogun State between 2003 and 2011, in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Steve Oliyide said it has become necessary to alert the public and relevant security agencies to what he described as a ‘very displeasing development’ in the state.

Government officials, the statement noted, on August 8, 2025, pasted Notices of Contravention, Quit Notices, and demolition threats on three properties belonging to him -the Asoludero Court, Sagamu; the Conference Hotels Limited, Sagamu; and its annex.

‘We strongly condemn this latest act of political persecution by Governor Dapo Abiodun. The recent issuance of these notices is a clear demonstration of the governor’s malicious and vindictive abuse of power, hiding behind a newly enacted law retroactively to target a political opponent’ the statement added.

He noted that the properties in question had existed for many years adding that the Asoludero Court was built in 2004, the Conference Hotel in 2013, and the annex in 2015.

The statement accused the Abiodun administration of attempting to use the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022 to justify the demolition of buildings legally constructed before the law came into force.

‘If indeed there was any contravention, it does not warrant an immediate demolition threat. The Abiodun administration has completely bypassed procedure, issuing a ‘Notice of Contravention’ and a ‘Notice to Quit’ simultaneously with an immediate demolition threat. This is not a legal process; it is a thuggish tactic designed to intimidate and inflict damage’ he said.

Recall that DATKEM Plaza, Ijebu Ode, a property belonging to Daniel’s wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel was demolished in September 2023.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Ogun State Government has not only denied the allegations of political persecution but also accused the senator of trying to play the sympathy card which is not necessary.

The state government noted in a statement issued on Saturday that the steps taken are in furtherance of the standard urban renewal and town planning audit exercise and not in anyway a personal vendetta.

Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Kayode Akinmade described the allegations raised by Senator Gbenga Daniel against the state government as ‘blatant distortions of facts’.

The notices in question, he noted, are part of a development audit being conducted in Government Reserved Areas in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode which also affects many other property owners.

‘All Otunba Gbenga Daniel needs to do, just like every other person in a similar situation, is to present his planning permit and land title to the relevant government agency for verification within the time specified in the notices, rather than resorting to cheap blackmail.

Nobody is bigger than the State.

Senator Gbenga Daniel is distinguished, no doubt, but he is not bigger than Ogun State. He should submit himself unreservedly to the same laws he once swore twice to uphold’ he said.

Noting that such town planning audits are not new and have been a standard procedure, including during Daniel’s tenure as governor, the statement urged the former governor to avoid using every interaction with government institutions as an opportunity to launch personal attacks with Governor Abiodun as the target-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
