Old Naira Notes: Injunction Issued By Supreme Court Still In Force-Kwara Gov
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state has submitted that the Supreme Court injunction asserting that the old naira notes remain a legal tender in the country still subsists.
The governor in a broadcast speech on Wednesday also noted that the state APC campaign council will be suspending campaign rallies until further notice.
‘My dear people of Kwara State:
I express my sincere sympathy with you on the continued scarcity of the naira notes as a result of the recent currency redesign exercise by the CBN.
For clarity, the Supreme Court has granted an injunction that allows the old and the new naira notes to coexist. This injunction is still valid until the highest court rules otherwise.
I therefore want all of you to be calm, law-abiding, and peaceful. Let us not attack one another or destroy one another’s properties.
I am appealing to you to remain calm and peaceful, and not to give in to any frustrations or engage in any form of violence.
I testify to the inconvenience this development has brought. We are in this together, and I assure you that this will be over in the shortest possible time. I really appreciate your patience.
In solidarity with the mood of the public, I’m putting my public rallies on hold until further notice.
God bless you all.’’ he said.
It will be recalled that the Supreme Court had on Wednesday, February 8 issued an interim injunction restraining the Federal Government from suspending the acceptance of the old Naira notes after the Friday, February 10, 2023 deadline.
Governor AbdulRazaq had also in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye earlier in the day , noted that he not only sympathizes with Kwarans but also feels their pain.
‘I testify to the inconvenience this development has brought. We are in this together, and we are not missing any opportunity to work with the CBN and the Federal Government to bring ease to the people within reasonable time. I admit it has been tough, and we do not take your patience for granted.
I sincerely appeal to you to remain calm. We are a resilient people who are popular for our peaceful nature and our history of seeking reliefs with calmness and absolute restraints.
This is a passionate appeal to the good people of Kwara State. Again, I share your pain, and I urge you to exercise the highest level of restraints as we surmount this challenge together’ the statement said-Team@orientactualmags.com
