Ondo Speaker, 2 Others Arraigned For Fraud In Akure…Case Adjourned Until May 18

Ondo Speaker, 2 Others Arraigned For Fraud In Akure…Case Adjourned Until May 18

Speaker, Ondo state House of Assembly, Hon Bamidele Oloyelogun, and one of his colleagues   have been arraigned for fraud.

They were taken to court by the  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

They are facing fraud charges having been accused of misusing  N2.4 million belonging to the state House of Assembly.

The defendants are ; Speaker Bamidele Oloyeloogun  , representative of Akoko South-West Constituency II,  Hon Felemu Bankole,  and a civil servant, Segun Oyadeyi Bankole.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that their arraignment was sequel to  the ruling by an Akure High Court that it has jurisdiction over the case.

Recall that when the case came up for hearing in February, the  defendants had  argued that EFCC lacks  the power to prosecute offences affecting the finances and assets of the state cognizant of the existence of  a law  to tackle corruption allegations in the state.

The  lawmakers and  the  civil servant were  consequently made to appear  before Justice Adegboyega Adebusoye of the state high court  on Tuesday and they are facing fraud charges.

The controversial 2.4 million  was meant to be used for  a seminar that  the lawmakers were expected  to attend, but allegedly got misused.

It was  a two-day seminar organized by the National Productivity Centre, Lagos in 2019.

The defendants however, pleaded not guilty .

Though counsel for  the EFCC, Kingsley Kudus, had  urged the court to remand the defendants in Olokuta Correctional Centre, counsel  for  the defendants, Femi Emodamori however argued that the administrative bail application on the defendants still subsists adding  that the Ondo Speaker has health challenges that requires urgent medical attention.

Justice Adegboyega Adebusoye later ruled that the defendants should enjoy their administrative bail until the next hearing date while adjourning the case until May 18 for further hearing- Team@orientactualmags.com
