Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi Urges ‘Unity Of Effort’ To Secure Kwara South’s Future

Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi Urges ‘Unity Of Effort’ To Secure Kwara South’s Future

The Ooni of Ife, Ooni Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi , has called for unity of effort to change things for the better in Kwara South and build a secure future for the coming generation.

The prominent traditional ruler , who said this while giving his speech during the maiden edition of  the summit organized by the Kwara South Development Forum, also emphasized the need to secure a good future for the next generation.

The summit, which was held at the ODU Hall, Offa, Kwara state had as its theme ‘Kwara South Unity and Prosperity’.

While submitting that he was elated to have attended the event , the Ooni urged the Kwara Southerners to  ensure unity among themselves noting that working together in a united way will attract those in the Diaspora and motivate them to come home and play a role in the development of the senatorial district.

Ooni Ogunwusi, who was  the Royal Father of The Day at the event, noted that ‘government  cannot  do it alone’ while lamenting that the Ilorin –Offa Road that had in years past featured a good number of companies currently has nothing.

He added that ‘we must do something to correct the situation’ and ‘revive the companies from their present moribund state’.

The top monarch also  urged traditional rulers  in the Kwara South to overlook the shortcomings of their subjects and give them total support  in order to ensure the growth and progress of their respective communities.

Professor Jonathan Oluyori Aleru, retired Justice Banji Orilonise, Professor Jonathan Aremu,  and Professor James Omotosho gave keynote speeches at the event  and ‘Kwara South: A Disconnect Between Yesterday and Today’, ‘Equity, Fairness And Justice In Kwara State : Kwara South In Perspective’, ‘Kwara South: The Imperative Of Economic Unity For Overall Development’ and ‘Community Development Associations In Kwara South: An Instrument of Retrogression Or Progress’ were their keynote topics respectively.

Retired Justice Banji Orilonise, who said government positions  in the State of Harmony especially governor, Speaker and  Secretary to the State Government should be done in rotation  also lamented the absence of a ‘recognized’ leader in Kwara south submitting that there is a need to have a leader who will organize ‘things’ and speak for the senatorial district.

He also called for the creation of new local governments in the zone cognizant that Ifelodun local government is arguably the largest local government in the country.

The retired justice , who recommended promotion of mechanized  farming in the Kwara South , added that the senatorial  district will become  the food basket of the nation if this is done, and the young people are motivated to engage in farming activities.

Professor James Omotosho , who noted that governance is about power, equity, justice, relationship and accountability, warned against concentration of infrastructure projects in the state capital.

‘With the age of Kwara state, (about 57 years) comparatively , out state deserves a better level of infrastructure development than what we have now. So, to enhance the development of Kwara state , government amenities  should not be concentrated in the state capital or around the state capital to ameliorate the negative effect of rural-urban migration of the young people’ he said.

Highlights of the event include presentation of awards to prominent sons and daughters of Kwara South who have made a mark in their chosen fields.
