Osun APC Suspends Aregbesola, Seeks His Response To Allegations

Osun State APC on Tuesday announced the decision to suspend Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola from the party citing anti-party activities.
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola , a former Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, a one-time governor of Osun state, also served as Minister for Interior under former president Muhammadu Buhari.
The State Working Committee of the party while announcing this decision however noted that the former minister was suspended from the party pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.

The state APC exco also noted that this was done sequel to the recommendations made by the Ilesa East Local Government Executive Committee of the party requesting a disciplinary action against Ogbeni Aregbesola while citing anti-party activities.
‘The Ilesa East Exco believes a swift action will restore party discipline and deter other members from engaging in anti-party activities’ the State Working Committee noted.
The state APC in a resolution sent to the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje noted that the allegations leveled against Aregbesola include party factionalization, i.e., forming splinter groups and parallel organs, collaborating with opposition parties to unsettle the APC in Osun State, and public outbursts against party leaders, including President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A Disciplinary Committee constituted by the state exco has also sent a letter to Aregbesola seeking a formal response to the allegations raised against him in order to ensure due process ‘in accordance with the constitution of the party’.
The development recorded on Tuesday has returned attention to a contentious issue- Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s continued membership of the party.
Recall that Osun State APC members had accused Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of mobilizing his lieutenants and supporters to work against the party during 2022 governorship election and the 2023 general election, while adding that he (Aregbesola) also mocked the party for its judicial loss at the Supreme Court.
Recall also that APC National Secretary, Barrister Bashiru Ajibola, who represented Osun Central in the senate between 2019 and 2023, had in a letter titled ‘Position Paper on the state of the party in Osun’ which was dated March 8, 2021, warned Aregbesola that intraparty conflict would adversely affect the state APC and might ultimately get the party out of power.
Ajibola served as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Osun state under Aregbesola-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
