Osun State House of Assembly has come up with a bill seeking to make skateboarding on roads and sidewalks illegal and ‘punishable’ in the state.
Anyone who engages in skating on roads will get a six- month sentence or pay N20,000 fine.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the lawmakers made the resolution while deliberating on the ‘Osun State Skating Restriction Bill 2025’ during a plenary session on Tuesday.
Speaker Adewale Egbedun said skating and others in the same category are indoor activities and should therefore be restricted to indoors.
The bill, when passed into law will according to him empower citizens to hand over violators to the police.
The bill will also provide concurrent jurisdiction to magistrates’ courts and high courts in the state to handle cases involving the violators.
‘Anybody or persons who skates or use roller skates on public road or sidewalks shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not less than six months or alternative sentencing of payment of sum not less than N250,000 or both’ he said
