Osun PDP Left With 1 Senator As 6 Reps Members Announce Decision To Leave Party For Accord

Osun State PDP faced a serious challenge in respect of its strength on Monday as 6 out of its remaining 7 federal lawmakers have announced their defection to Accord Party.

This has come barely 72 hours after 25 members of the state House of Assembly left PDP for the Accord Party.

While Governor Ademola Adeleke had last year left PDP for Accord Party, members of the state House of Assembly and federal lawmakers, who are his loyalists, had stayed put in PDP.

However, there is no room for procrastination any longer as conduct of party primaries including the resolution of disputes arising from them, will according to the electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) begin on April 23, 2026 and end on May 30, 2026.

Recall that PDP had produced occupants of the 3 senate seats and the 9 reps seats from the state in the 2023 National Assembly elections but the dispersal had begun last year when Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), Rep Sanya Omirin (Ijesha South federal constituency), Rep Wole Oke (Ijesha North federal constituency) and Rep Taofeeq Ajilesoro (Ife federal constituency)  announced their decision to leave PDP for APC.

The final blow came on Monday with Rep Clement Akanni, Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, Rep Mahruf Adewale, Osogbo Federal Constituency, Rep Bamidele Salam, Ede Federal Constituency, Rep Soji Adetunji , Ikirun Federal Constituency, Rep Mudashiru Lukman Alani, Iwo Federal Constituency, and Rep  Lanre Oladebo, Irewole/ Isokan Federal Constituency announcing their decision to leave PDP for the Accord Party.

The only federal lawmaker now left in the PDP is Senator Lere Oyewumi of Osun West senatorial district.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Rep Clement Akanni, Rep Bamidele Salam and 4 others announced their defection during the ‘stakeholder meeting’ held by the Accord Party in Osogbo on Monday.

Rep Clement Akanni, who spoke on behalf of the PDP defectors, said Governor Ademola Adeleke will win the gubernatorial election scheduled to hold in the state on August 15,2026.

‘I want to ask, will it be easy for one person to pick up a gun and be killing other people? After voting, stay behind and monitor your votes. Before you start voting, check result sheet, check ballot papers and be sure they are complete.

After voting, with our projections, 80% votes will go to Adeleke, while the other party will get 20%. We will win and all of us will be alive to witness it.

On behalf of Mahruf Adewale representing Osogbo Federal Constituency, Bamidele Salam, Ede Federal Constituency, Soji Adetunji Ikirun Federal Constituency, Mudashiru Lukman Alani, Iwo Federal Constituency, Lanre Oladebo, Irewole/ Isokan Federal Constituency, all of us from today have moved to the Accord Party’ he said.

Giving his speech, Governor Ademola Adeleke said his decision to leave PDP for Accord Party was sequel to spiritual guidance.

‘I love the PDP but I had to leave to escape been trapped for my re-election. I confided in some of our leaders that I trust, we started consulting and praying that God should guide us. We were guided into Accord Party. You see that the party is the first on the ballot.

You should vote massively for Accord Party, then victory is guaranteed for us.

I thank the PDP family because I am part of the family, I thank you all for the endorsement of today and accept it whole heartedly. I want to thank Accord Party for accepting me’ he said.

‘Our party has no candidate and we voted Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2022. So, he is still our son and we want all our structures across to support and vote for him’ the state PDP Chairman, Chief Sunday Sunday also submitted-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
