Osun Popular Politician, Peter Power, Leaves PDP Amid Suspension, Resignation Dramas

One of the prominent politicians in Osun state, Elder Peter Babalola ,who is popularly called ‘Peter Power’, announced his decision to leave the PDP on Tuesday.
Babalola’s decision to end his membership of the PDP must have taken many by surprise cognizant that he was considered as one of the confidants of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who had also made reference to this in a statement he issued to congratulate the former guber aspirant on his birthday in December last year.
The governor had submitted that Babalola ‘remains a source of strength for him and the party’.
Elder Peter Babalola has also resigned from his position as Chairman of the Governing Council of Osun state College of Education, Ila Orangun.

Sources told Team@orientactualmags.com that what occurred on Tuesday was in semblance with what happened between the proverbial hunter (Ogungbe) and the monkey ‘Aaya gbon, Ogungbe gbon, aaya n tiro , Ogungbe n bere’ meaning in English ‘The monkey is clever, Ogungbe is clever, the monkey is tiptoeing, Ogungbe is bending down’.
Elder Peter Babalola was according to a source planning to announce his decision to leave the PDP next week while he will later announce his new party at a grand defection ceremony, however, having got a wind of this, a decision was taken to take a shine off the planned event by having him suspended from the party.
Recall that a former guber aspirant, Barrister Kayode Oduoye had left the PDP for APC at a defection ceremony held in Ikirun on Sunday which was attended by prominent party leaders .

Party officials in Ward 7, Irewole local government , Osun state announced decision to suspend Babalola from the PDP on Tuesday while however noting that he has ceased to be a member of the party which implied expulsion.
The 17 PDP ward officials in a letter sent to the state PDP chairman, Chief Sunday Bisi, accused Chief Babalola of engaging in anti-party activities.
‘After exhaustive deliberation on the various anti-party activities of Elder Peter Babalola in the PDP for the past two years, and his habitual engagements in various activities that can put the party into disrepute, coupled with the fact that he has not attended the PDP ward or Local Government meetings in the last two years, the executive of PDP in Ward 07, Irewole Local government hereby suspends Elder Peter Adebayo Babalola from PDP ward 07, Irewole Local Government with effect from today, August 27, 2024.
By this suspension, Elder Peter Adebayo Babalola ceases to be a member of PDP ward 07, Irewole Local Government’ the ward officials submitted.
It was gathered however that after becoming aware that collection of signatures were ongoing , Elder Peter Babalola had quickened actions on his planned defection by resigning from the PDP.
Elder Babalola noted in his resignation letter that he had done this ‘after careful reflection and consideration of my personal values and goals and the political direction I wish to pursue’.

.
Ahead of the 2003 governorship election, Elder Peter Babalola was a PDP guber aspirant and he was later appointed as Chief of Staff , Government House , Osogbo, a position he retained until 2009.
As the then Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola’s Chief of Staff, Babalola was a member of his kitchen cabinet and he coordinated the ‘government squad’ against perceived and real political enemies.
Recall that it was Mopol 14, a group financed by the then Chairman of Osogbo local government, Alhaji Liadi Gbadamosi which also enjoyed the backing of the former Chief of Staff that engaged the Aregbesola’s boys at the riotous Oroki Day celebration in Osogbo in 2006.
Aregbesola, who was then the Lagos state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, was carried shoulder -high into the venue of the event after the governor had been seated. A seat reserved for Aregbesola near the governor had been occupied and crisis naturally erupted on Aregbesola’s arrival.
If Elder Peter Babalola eventually chooses APC as his new party, he will simply be returning to his former party.
The top politician had decamped to the ACN in 2010, a development that made his nickname experience metamorphosis. He was previously addressed as ‘Peter Power’ but thenceforth addressed as ‘Peter Action’ until he returned to the PDP in August 2018.
Elder Peter Babalola, had resigned from his position as Chairman of Osun Local Government Service Commission, and left APC for PDP ahead of the September 2018 gubernatorial election-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
