Osun REC Emphasizes Importance Of Electoral Due Process, Discloses Plans To Take Voter Awareness Campaign To Schools
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Osun State, Dr Mutiu Agboke has submitted that ensuring electoral due process will help to assure the citizens that elections will not only be free and fair but also credible.
Ensirung electoral due process throughout the election cycle, he added, will ensure free, fair and credible elections.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Mr Musa Olurode, who is the Public Relations Officer of the Osun State office, noted that Dr Agboke said this during the visit of students and staff of Ebunoluwa International School, Osogbo to the INEC Office, Osogbo on Wednesday.

They were led by the Principal of the school, Mr Ogedengbe.
‘Election is about law. If there is no law, election cannot be successful. Every INEC activity is about law.
The four frameworks include the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which is the grand norm; the Electoral Act 2022; the Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections 2022; and the Manuals for election operations’ he said.
The electoral body, will also according to him visit schools in the state as part of its ‘Catch Them Young Voter’ initiative which will help to create awareness about the electoral process among the young citizens while cautioning the people of the state against electoral fraud.
He also said 18 out of the 19 registered political parties in the country are active in Osun State while adding that there are seven departments at the INEC office including the Electoral Operations Department that manages election logistics, recruitment and training, while the Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity Department is overseeing the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
‘Anyone who wants to corrupt the electoral process will go to jail’ he said.
He added that while the INEC Voter Enrollment Device (IVED) is used during registration process, the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) is used on the Election Day.
Giving his speech, during separate visit by the management of Vicinity FM, a private radio station located in Ikeji-Ile, Dr Agboke said the electoral body has ensured that stakeholders including media organizations get involved in its activities.
‘Media organizations are germane in respect of what we do and we cannot but continue to cooperate with the media. Cooperating with the media also has its own leverage because it affords them to know first-hand the activities of INEC.
We will conduct peaceful elections and ensure that the people’s vote counts’ he said.
Earlier, General Manager of the radio station, Mr Akolade Ademola commended INEC for the ongoing CVR exercise while adding that ‘INEC is well known and there is a need for working together in one accord.
