Osun: White Paper Recommends Removal Of Gboyega Famodun As Owa Of Igbajo, Fresh ‘Selection Process’ In Iree

Osun state government on Thursday released six important white papers, five on committees that investigated matters raised through the executive orders issued by Governor Ademola Adeleke at the start of his administration in November 2022, as well as the White paper on Education Summit.
One of the white papers has recommended the removal of Prince Gboyega Famodun as Owa of Igbajo.
Famodun swas until his appointment as Owa of Igbajo on Monday, November 21, 2022, the Osun state APC Chairman.
His appointment as Owa of Igbajo was announced after the State Executive Council meeting that was presided over by the then Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

The state government noted that the White Papers earlier approved by the State Executive Council were finally ratified after further review by a special committee chaired by Governor Adeleke in line with his promise to ensure due process, in-depth consultation and compliance with the rule of law.
Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, who is the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com submitted that the white papers contained decisions taken on the Igbajo throne, Iree throne and other matters while noting that members of the public interested in having copies of the white papers can have access to them.
‘Among the white papers approved include those of Committees on Chieftaincy Matters, Contracts/MOU/Agreements review Committee, Solid Minerals Committee, Assets Inventory and Recovery Committee, Staff Audit /Appointments/ Promotions review Committee, as well as the white paper on Education Summit.
On the report submitted by the committee that looked into chieftaincy matters chaired by Honourable Bunmi Jenyo, the white paper strictly prioritized compliance with legal requirements as a basis for final decisions.
In line with the report of the White Paper, all previous steps taken in relation to the installation of new Aree of Iree and Owa of Igbajo stand nullified. And that an all-inclusive selection process(es) for a new Aree of Iree and Owa of Igbajo, respectively, should commence immediately.
Specifically on Aree of Iree throne, the substantive chiefs are enjoined to withdraw their suit before the Court so as to allow for commencement of the selection process denovo in line with due process and tradition.
And on the Igbajo throne, the White Paper nullified the previous selection process, which produced Prince Gboyega Famodun and directed an all-inclusive selection process for a new Owa of Igbajo.
On the Ikirun throne dispute, the White Paper directed that the parties should await the outcome of the case before the Court of Appeal. And that the throne remains vacant.
On the Awo throne dispute , the white paper further recommended compliance with the requirements of the law and the government accepted the committee’s recommendation that it should await the outcome of the pending suit before the Supreme Court.
The Government has directed the setting up of a task force for the recovery of government vehicles carted away by officials of the Gboyega Oyetola administration.
In the meanwhile, the State Government has also directed the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment to publish the six white papers in the official government gazette.
