Oyo Prominent Politician, Yekini Adeojo, Dies In Ibadan…Gov Makinde Offers Condolences

A prominent politician in Oyo State, Chief Yekini Ayoade Adeojo, is dead.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that he died in the early hours of Friday at his GRA, Iyaganku,  Ibadan residence.

Adeojo was until his death on Friday, the Seriki Musulumi of Yorubaland.  His son, Sheriff Adeojo is the current Chairman of Ido Local Government, Oyo State.

The late Adeojo, a one-time PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), had at different times sought to become the governor of Oyo State but could not however achieve this important political aspiration.

Late Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu, who was the strongman of Ibadan politics, had stood as the stumbling block as only his favourite candidates had their way.

The late Alhaji Adeojo was the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 1999 guber election held on  January 9, 1999.,which was however won by the then AD candidate, Alhaji Lam Adesina.

Adesina had 454,680 votes while Adeojo got 219,200 votes

Ahead of the 2007 Oyo State gubernatorial election, Adeojo had like he had done before then sought to get the state PDP guber nomination but when he arrived at the Liberty Stadium venue of the primary election with about 7,000 delegates, only 100 among them were recognized as delegates.

Late Otunba Alao Akala was eventually declared winner of the primary election.

 Islamic funeral prayer (Salatul Janazah) was held for Adeojo in Ibadan on Friday.

It was presided over by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaji AbdulGaniy Agbotomokekere.

 In the meanwhile, Oyo State governor, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde, has mourned the death of Alhaji Yekini Adeojo describing him as one of the last men standing.

Adeojo’s death, he noted,  marked the end of a glorious political era.

Governor expressed his condolences to the family of Adeojo praying that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the exit of their patriarch.

The governor in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media), Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, also commiserated with the PDP family in Oyo State.

‘I have just been informed about the passing of our father, Pa Yekini Adeojo.

 I condole with the family of Alhaji Adeojo, the PDP in Oyo State and the good people of the state over the demise of a man most of us grew up to know as an icon and patriot.

Baba’s death marks the end of a glorious political era, as he was one of the last great men standing in the state as a political, community and religious leader.

He will be greatly missed by the PDP family, where he has been our leader and icon for over two decades.

His death will also leave a vacuum in our great state and Nigeria, because Baba gave his best to serving our state and the nation as a whole.
