Passing Out Parade Held For 443 New Police Constables In Ilorin…They ‘ll Be Deployed For Election Duty Next Year-IGP Alkali

A total of 443 newly recruited Police Constables attended the passing out parade held for them at the Police Training School, Ilorin, Kwara state on Thursday with the nation’s police chief, Alhaji Usman Alkali Baba noting that the 10,000 police constables that officially joined the force on the same day at different locations in the country, will be deployed for election duty next year.

A General Election will be held in the country next year: while the presidential and national assembly elections will hold on February 25, the Governorship and house of assembly elections will hold on March 11.

The Inspector General of Police, who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 8, Mr Adekunle Ashafa,  noted that in seeking to achieve the community policing goals, the new constables  will be posted to their respective local governments to further strengthen the policing strategy of the Nigeria Police Force and address communal crimes

‘It is noted that after today’s event, all the graduating police constables will be deployed to complement officers  in respect of security duties in the forthcoming election across the nation, in a bid to ensure a free, fair and credible electoral process.

 This event , which is taking place simultaneously at four premier colleges and police training schools across the country, wraps up six months of highly challenging rigorous, physical, and intellectual training activities and it signifies the transition of the recruits  mainstream professional policing duties with the right orientation to meet emerging  security challenges within the dictates of the rule of law

It should also be noted that the recruitment exercise was spread over the 774 local governments in  the country with due regard to federal character considerations and in line with the directives of Mr President’ he said.

Baba told the new police constables that the bedrock of police work is discipline, adding that ‘though you have a promising and brighter career ahead of you, how far you go in this  career depends , to a great extent, on your character, discipline, and integrity’.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama,  who enjoined the new police constables  to maintain a high level of discipline and shun corruption, later presented awards to the outstanding police constables.

Alhaji Abdul Olayinka Sulu Gambari ,who is the Commandant of the Police Training School, Ilorin, in his speech told the new police constables to treat every member of the public fairly and not be impartial, he also asked them to shun corruption and get counted among dedicated policemen.

He also urged them to be self -disciplined noting that this will stand as a bridge between success and failure.

Head , Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC, who was represented by Mr. Ayodele  said the new police constables will be playing a role in anti-crime efforts and also help to tackle insecurity in the country. 

Shuaib Abubakar, who got the Outstanding Performance In Academic Award,   told Team@orientactualmags.com that he was happy that he had the opportunity to do the Nigeria Police Force and his family proud.

‘It is a honour  and privilege to be one of the new police constables, the  police have continued to   recruit intelligent people , Iam glad and I thank God that Iam one of them. I give all glory to God’ he said.
