Kwara state PDP has condemned in strong terms what it called oppressive and unjust taxation policies that have been introduced by the Kwara state Government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership .
The party added that the recent outcry from the Igbo Traders in the state under the umbrella of Kwara Igbo Traders Association (KWAITA ) against ‘these egregious measures underscore the magnitude of discontent and economic hardship faced by businesses across the state’.
Kwara state PDP in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the state Secretary, Mr. Abdullahi Kayode, has also advised the state Government to immediately revert to the mutually beneficial tax and tax collection system introduced in 2015 by the PDP government headed by Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.
‘Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration has shown a blatant disregard for the economic well-being of Kwarans by burdening them with exorbitant taxes at a time when businesses are already reeling from the devastating effects of the subsidy removal and other socio-economic challenges. Instead of providing support and relief to struggling entrepreneurs, the government has chosen to exacerbate their plight through its exploitative tax regime.
It is unconscionable that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq remains silent in the face of mounting grievances from the business community, particularly the Igbo traders who have long been an integral part of the community and have played a role in ensuring economic vibrancy of Kwara state. His failure to acknowledge and address their legitimate concerns several weeks after their first open protest reflects a dereliction of duty and a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the people of Kwara.
The PDP calls on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to immediately halt the implementation of these oppressive tax policies and instead focus on initiatives that stimulate economic growth, create job opportunities, and alleviate the suffering of the people. His silence on this matter is not only deafening but also indicative of a leadership void that threatens the prosperity and stability of Kwara state.
Furthermore, we demand transparency and accountability in the utilization of tax revenues to ensure that they are directed towards projects and programmes that benefit the welfare of the people, rather than serving the interests of a select few’ the statement said..
