PDP, NANS Delegations Visit Gov Idris In Birnin Kebbi, Welcome Return Of Maga High School Students

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep joy and happiness over the safe return of the 24 students who were abducted at Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State.

Governor Nasir Idris’ Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki noted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com that PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, led a delegation of party officials to Kebbi State on Thursday to convey the party’s solidarity while also reaffirming confidence that Nigeria’s security challenges can be effectively addressed through unity, collaboration and collective responsibility.

Speaking at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, Turaki stressed the urgent need for communities and leaders across the country to work together irrespective of political, religious, or ethnic differences.

‘We must come together irrespective of religious, tribal, or political differences. A kidnapper does not ask for your party affiliation, language, or religion. Criminals see everyone as a potential source of ransom. There is no reason we cannot unite as one people to confront this menace’ he said.

The PDP Chairman also called on the National Assembly to reassess the legal framework governing the role of state governors as Chief Security Officers.

‘When a governor is called Chief Security Officer but has no control over security agencies, there is a need for a review. The National Assembly should empower governors with full authority to discharge this responsibility effectively’ Alhaji Turaki appealed submitted while commending Governor Nasir Idris for his proactive stance during the abduction incident.

 He also noted that the governor’s timely intervention contributed meaningfully to the swift rescue of the students.

‘Your question and intervention played a role in the early release of the girls. Governance is about service, and we commend the good work being done in Kebbi State. On behalf of the PDP leadership nationwide, we are here to identify with the government and people of Kebbi, to show empathy and solidarity over the sad incident, and to congratulate you on the safe rescue of the students’ he added.

Responding on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Abubakar Tafida, described the visit as a strong demonstration of democratic maturity and national unity.

‘This visit shows that our national interest is greater than individual or party considerations. Cross-party solidarity like this is essential for the peace and stability of our country. 

We appreciate the PDP National Chairman and other party leaders for commiserating with us on the death of the Vice Principal and celebrating with us on the rescue of the schoolgirls’ Tafida said.

The National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Olushola Ladoja, has also commended Governor Nasir Idris for the commitment shown in respect of rescuing the 24 abducted Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School students and their welfare.

Separate statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that he said this during a solidarity visit to the governor in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

Ladoja explained that the NANS national leadership felt compelled to visit Kebbi State not only to sympathize with the government and people over the unfortunate abduction but also to join them in celebrating the safe return of the schoolgirls.

He noted that the incident deeply affected the entire nation cognizant that it occurred on the same day Nigerian students were celebrating International Students’ Day.

The NANS President expressed profound appreciation to Governor Idris for standing firm, speaking truth to power, and courageously demanding an investigation into the alleged withdrawal of security personnel from the school shortly before the attack.

He described the governor as ‘a rare leader whose sincerity and courage reflect true comradeship’ adding that his bold stance and response attracted swift national attention to the issue.

Ladoja recalled that immediately after watching the governor’s interview on national television,  NANS addressed the Federal Government and security agencies in Abuja, demanding urgent action for the rescue of the abducted students.

He stated that the association closely monitored developments throughout the rescue efforts and was delighted that all the schoolgirls are back home.

The leader of the student body further commended the governor for prioritizing security across Kebbi State, highlighting the provision of security vehicles and thousands of motorcycles to vigilante groups as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community protection.

He also acknowledged Governor Idris’ significant contribution to the education sector, citing previous visits where he inspected rehabilitated schools and ongoing infrastructural projects, and the governor’s swift intervention in resolving scholarship issues challenges and supporting Kebbi State law students.

Ladoja stressed that NANS stands firmly behind the governor and disclosed that the association would address an international press conference in Abuja to reaffirm that Kebbi remains one of the safest states in the country.

In his remarks, Governor Nasir Idris thanked NANS for the solidarity visit and for standing with the state during the challenging period, noting that the rescue operation was made possible through the decisive intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the coordinated efforts of security agencies.

He reiterated that security remains the top priority of his administration and pledged continued investment in personnel, logistics, intelligence gathering, and community participation to keep Kebbi safe.

The governor also restated his commitment to youth development, noting that his administration supports young people through employment opportunities, educational reforms, and empowerment programmes across the state.

Governor Idris concluded by expressing gratitude to the president, security agencies, NANS leadership, and the people of Kebbi State for their support, prayers, and cooperation whilst the ordeal lasted.
