Kwara state PDP on Tuesday questioned the decision taken by the management team of the Vanguard Newspaper to honour Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq with the Governor of the Year award.
The party in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by its state Publicity Secretary, Hon Tunji Morounfoye argued forcibly that the management team of the Vanguard Newspaper made a wrong decision.
Governor AbdulRazaq had at different times gotten named as Governor of the Year by the Leadership Newspaper and the Blueprint Newspaper. the governor’s media office while also announcing that he has won the Vanguard Newspaper’s Governor of The Year award in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Tuesday, had noted that ‘his performance and activities even as a first-time governor have been outstanding and largely impactful, earning him accolades and recognition from various quarters’.
Kwara state PDP has however submitted that the governor does not deserve the award.
‘The citizens of Kwara state and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are clearly surprised at the choice of Mal. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as the Vanguard newspaper’s governor of the year 2022.
We at the PDP wonder how a governor who leads a regime that has various allegations of graft hanging around its neck could be considered for the Governor of the year award. This is a governor that has refused to conduct local government elections in almost four years that he has held sway. The same governor that appointed Transition Implementation Committees (TICs) in all sixteen local governments in the state, this is even after a subsisting supreme court judgment had said that the appointment of TICs were ‘unconstitutional and tantamount to executive rascality?
We hope the Vanguard newspaper knows that, the Kwara state APC regime led by Mal. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has accessed close to ‘half a trillion naira’ revenue in just over three years, without any completed landmark projects inaugurated? Our governor, Mal. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has from 2019 till now accessed loans of close to the total amount of loans obtained by Kwara governors since the creation of Kwara state in 1967.
In addition to the above, we have been ‘begging’ the APC regime led by Mal Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq since 2021, to provide to us the list, locations and bills of quantities (BOQs) of over six hundred phantom schools they claimed to have renovated under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), which made Kwara government commit over fourteen Billion Naira, to no avail.
Surely the Vanguard newspaper must know that their ‘governor of the year 2022’, Mal. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has refused to request for and sign the Freedom of Information bill (FOI), for almost four years now that the bill had been dumped at the Kwara state house of Assembly (KWHA) making it impossible for his regime to be transparent and ready to face any inquiry.
Consequently, any governor can win ‘governor of the year’ even if they had left critical infrastructure unattended to, like in Kwara state. The roads in Ilorin are riddled with potholes; the environment is dotted with mounds of putrid and decomposing garbage. Doesn’t the Vanguard newspaper have a correspondent in Kwara state at all?
We at the PDP put it to the ‘Vanguard newspaper’s Governor of the year 2022’ that his award is misplaced, and he doesn’t qualify to be named as governor of the year under any objective criteria’ the party said.
