‘Peaceful’ Monday In Osun As Stand-Off Over Control Of LGs Continues…Why Cops Were Deployed To LG Secretariats-Police Command

Residents and citizens of Osun State had a ’peaceful’ Monday, today, June 23, 2025, as no negative incident was recorded at any location in the State of the Living Spring.
There was no ‘negative situation’ at any of the local government secretariats in the state especially during the ‘working hours’ on Monday, June 23, 2025, contrary to safety fears that had filled the air.
Recall that all eyes had been on Osun State as residents, citizens and other Nigerians had eagerly awaited scenes that may get enacted at the secretariats of local governments in the state following a simmering tension.
Some among residents of the State of the Living Spring had expressed safety fears on Sunday while social media posts by some among them also got this accentuated.
What stood as the starting point for the seeming unending political tension in the state was the ruling delivered by the Court of Appeal, Akure, Ondo State on February 10, 2025.
Recall that the interpretation of the court ruling in question had sparked controversy.
Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), the state PDP, the state APC, and other stakeholders in the State of the Living Spring had disagreed sharply on how to interpret the court ruling.
The two major political parties in the state had also, once again, disagreed on how to interpret the ‘fresh’ ruling delivered by the same Court of Appeal, Akure, Ondo State on June 13, 2025.
The two separate court rulings centered on the status of the local government chairmen and councilors that were elected on October 15, 2022, and those who were elected on February 22, 2025.
Sources told Team@orientactualmags.com that ‘a peaceful Monday’ was made possible as a result of the positive intervention by the state police command.
Recall that the LG chairmen and councilors, who are APC members, have been registering presence at their respective local government secretariats since February this year while the 2025 LG officials, who are PDP members, have stayed away from the local government secretariats as directed by Governor Ademola Adeleke to avoid a direct confrontation.
Following the June 13 court ruling which the two parties had claimed was in their favour, the police had reportedly had all the local government secretariats under lock and key while also stopping the 2022 LG Chairmen from gaining access to the respective premises.
The state police command has however clarified and asserted that while cops were deployed to all the local government secretariats in the state no one was however denied access to any of the secretariats.
Spokesman for the state police command, Mr. Biodun Ojelabi, a Superintendent of Police, in a telephone interview with Team@orientactualmags.com on Monday night noted that the deployment of cops to the secretariats was a proactive measure taken to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
‘Yes, we deployed cops to all local government secretariats in the state to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
We don’t want a repeat of what had happened before. However, we had nothing to do with the local government secretariats being under lock and key because we are neither security guards there nor their staff.
Also, we did not stop anyone from having access to the secretariats, we only had our people there to prevent a breakdown law of and order, we were there to provide security for everyone’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
