Petrol Subsidy: Labour Unions Say Planned Strike Action ‘ll Be Held In Abeyance For 30 Days

Labour unions in the country that had stated readiness to declare a total, comprehensive and indefinite nationwide strike beginning from today, Tuesday, October 3, 2023, announced on Monday night that they will no longer maintain a hard stance.

The strike action  was announced sequel to the removal of petrol subsidy and its concomitant economic hardships.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the labour unions have taken a decision to pause action in respect of the planned indefinite strike.

This resolution was sequel to deliberations that lasted for five hours, and the meeting held at the Chief of Staff Conference Room , Presidential Villa, Abuja, had Federal Government officials and the Labour leaders in attendance.

Announcing the outcome of the meeting to State House correspondents, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, said:

‘The NLC and TUC have accepted to suspend for 30 days the planned indefinite nationwide strike scheduled to begin, Tuesday, the 3rd of October, 2023’.

Also speaking, NLC President, Joe Ajaero, said the labour unions would revisit the agreement if the FG fails to fulfill its demands.-

Those who appended their signatures to the memorandum of understanding include the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja; as well as the TUC President, Festus Osifo, and Secretary General, Nuhu Toro.

Others are Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Dr Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris-Team@orientactualmags.com
