Police Confirm Death Of Popular TV Presenter, Security Guard In Abuja Home Invasion
A robbery incident in the Katampe area of Abuja on Monday claimed the lives of two people; a popular TV presenter, Somtochukwu Maduagwu and a security guard.
Somtochukwu Maduagwu was a staff of ARISE News and the security guard had apparently challenged the home invaders.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that spokesperson for FCT police command, Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the TV presenter’s death on Tuesday, also expressed her condolences to the Maduagwu family.
Describing the incident as ‘a cruel and senseless act that has no place in a sane society’, Josephine added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
‘Two people died in the incident. The ARISE TV anchor and the security guard’ she added.
A staff of ARISE News Channel, Ojy Okpe reportedly said that Sumtochukwu actually jumped from her apartment after learning that 14 armed robbers had invaded the building although, she did not die immediately but however lost the battle to save her life after allegedly getting rejected by staff of an undisclosed hospital.
Commenting on the issue and providing an update during an interview with Arise News on Wednesday, FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, said cops found Maduagwu unconscious at the scene of the incident and rushed her to the hospital.
‘Policemen arrived at the scene of the incident and found her lying unconscious. She was immediately taken to Maitama General Hospital, where doctors tried to resuscitate her using CPR, but sadly, she could not make it’ he said.
The police chief said robbers invaded Unique Apartment, a three-story twin building with 18 flats in the Gishiri axis of Katampe, under the Mabushi Divisional Area and the late TV presenter felt panic and jumped from the last floor.
‘FCT Command once again, commiserates with the family of Sommie, the Arise News family, and Nigerians deeply touched by this ugly and disturbing incident.
Some unknown armed robbers gained access to Unique Apartments where Sommie lived. Two private security guards were on duty. One of them, who had the courage to challenge the robbers, sustained a gunshot injury.
In the panic that followed, Sommie, who lived on the topmost floor of the building, jumped down and the consequences were tragic and very unfortunate.
We have set up a specific investigation team headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation, with all tactical units involved to track down the culprits. The leads we are getting are already being worked on, and no stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators are brought to justice’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
