The police have launched a probe into the death of a two-month-old baby, Adam Tahiru, who was found dead in a well in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Eight people have since been arrested in connection with the case while the police have promised a thorough investigation.

Presiding over the press conference held at the police headquarters, Ilorin on Saturday which was attended by journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com, the state police chief, Mr. Adekimi Ojo, a Commissioner of Police, noted that the incident happened on May 25, 2025, while assuring that the state police command will ensure that justice is served in the case.

‘At about 2200hrs, one Aishat Tahiru of No. 9 Maiduku area, Zango, Ilorin, reported the disturbing case of a missing child at the Kulende Police Station.

She stated that at about 2130hrs, while observing her evening prayers, she left her two-month-old baby, Adam Tahiru on the sofa in her room. Shortly after, she instructed her daughter, Mariam, to check on the baby, but to her dismay, the child was nowhere to be found. An alarm was immediately raised, prompting neighbors to conduct a search around the vicinity. Despite their efforts, the baby could not be found.

The matter was subsequently escalated and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin on the 27th of May, 2025, for in-depth investigation. Tragically, during the course of the investigation, the lifeless body of baby Adam Tahiru was discovered in a well within the same community.

Following intelligence gathering and preliminary findings, eight (8) suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation at the State CID. Investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as developments unfold. The Command assures the public that every effort is being made to ensure that justice is served in this heartbreaking case’ he added.

‘On the 19th of May, 2025 at about 0630hrs, one Halidu Yakubu of Taberu Village, Okuta District, Baruten Local Government, reported the suspicious disappearance of a farmhand, Gunu (surname yet to be confirmed) at the Okuta Divisional Police Headquarters.

Umar, the complainant observed that Haruna was digging the earth in a suspicious manner. Upon inquiry, Haruna Umar made a startling confession — he was in the process of exhuming the decomposing body of the said Gunu, disclosing that he had killed and buried him on the same farmland. Following the report, cops promptly carried out the arrest of Haruna Umar and one of his accomplices, Aminu Gona.
