Police Officer Refuses To ‘Secretly’ Release 53-Year-Old Suspect In Akwa Ibom, Rejects N800,000 Bribe
Ebong Thompson, a Chief Superintendent of Police, who heads the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, Akwa Ibom State police command, has been commended for demonstrating good conduct by refusing to secretly release a robbery suspect.
The cop in question had also rejected N800,000 bribe.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that spokesman for the state police command, DSP Timfon John, who disclosed this in a statement he issued in Uyo on Friday, said the suspects involved in the case have been arrested and taken into custody.
53-year-old David Isaac, he noted, was arrested after a Samsung phone that was snatched at gun point was traced to him.
Isaac has a record of similar offences having gotten arrested sometime last year and had charges preferred against him but sadly returned to criminal activities after his release.
Emmanuel Peter, who brought N800,000 to the SWAT office to secure the release of the main suspect, has also been arrested and taken into custody.
‘A police officer in charge of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, CSP Ebong Thompson, rejected N800,000 bribe offered to him on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
The money was intended to secure the release of a robbery suspect and also cover up the crime.
The suspect, 53-year-old David Samuel Isaac, was arrested after a Samsung phone that was gotten at gun point was traced to him. Isaac has a history of similar offences as he was arrested for similar crimes sometime last year and had charges preferred against him but returned to criminal activities after his release.
The other suspect, Emmanuel Mendie Peter was arrested after he brought the bribe to the SWAT office to secure the release of the main suspect. He was taken into custody after the offer was rejected.
All officers concerned with this discreet investigation received a commendation letter from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare. The CP, while addressing cops during the monthly briefing, urged them to emulate the distinguished officers.
