President Tinubu Meets With Governors Of States That Share Boundaries With Niger Republic In Abuja
President Bola Tinubu on Sunday met with Governors Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Idris Nasir (Kebbi) and Dr Dikko Radda (Katsina) at the State House, Abuja.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the coup detat carried out by military officers in the Republic of Niger last month was top on the agenda.
The five governors are chief executives of states that share boundaries with the Republic of Niger.
In a coup detat carried out in the Republic of Niger on July 26, 2023, President Mohamed Bazoum was arrested and detained by the coup plotters led by General Abdourahamane Tchiani.
Presidents of member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), had also met at the State House, Abuja on July 30, 2023 to discuss the coup detat carried out by the military officers in question and they had issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding that Muhammed Bazoum should be returned to power without delay.
The regional body had also imposed sanctions on the coup leaders with Nigeria also cutting electricity supply and closing its borders with Republic of Niger.
President Bola Tinubu had also sent a letter to the Senate seeking its support for military intervention to root out the coup plotters .
He also sought the backing of the parliament on the decision to cut off electricity supply to the country.
The Nigerian senate after meeting in closed session to discuss the issue on Saturday however opposed the deployment of military to Niger and urged the ECOWAS leaders to consider alternative options--Team@orientactualmags.com
