President Tinubu Mulling Establishment Of Marine , Solid Mineral Police-Media Aide

President Bola Tinubu  is mulling  the establishment of marine police, solid mineral police and a well-trained forest guard, his Special Adviser  on Information and Strategy,  Mr Bayo Onanuga, has said.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Onanuga disclosed this in a message he posted on X (formerly Twitter),  on Saturday.

Onanuga said President Tinubu had during the   meeting held with the APC governors  in Abuja on Friday  talked about  his plans to rejig Nigeria’s security architecture.

‘He (Tinubu) mentioned three brand new police formations, to augment the regular police.

He said the deployment of forest guards was being considered, with better training, modern technological gadgets and weapons to strengthen security.

President Bola Tinubu

He said  the solid mineral and marine economic sectors will also be secured by special police.

We have a big marine economy, and I do not see why we should not have the marine police.

We will have the same in solid minerals to keep the scavengers away. I am ready to invest in security’ Onanuga wrote.

He  added that President Tinubu also disclosed his plans to stock the nation’s mineral resources, in reserve.

‘We will buy our own minerals and keep them in reserves, especially gold, which will be effective in our foreign exchange reserve’ the President was quoted to have told the APC governors.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that many have described this as a welcome development and a good step in the right direction, the marine police may however be strengthened or repositioned but not newly established as information available on the website of the Nigeria Police Force  stated that  the marine police had gotten established in 1891 in Lagos, and it was then called ‘Night Water Patrol.’

‘The Marine Section is currently a branch of the ‘B’ Department of the Force. The Section has 81 Marine Stations, and Outpost spread across the length and breadth of the inland navigable rivers and waterways in the country.

It has formations and commands at the Force Headquarters and 20 states of the federation’ the NPF stated .

Recall that President Tinubu had also last year  set up a  committee tasked with  carrying out comprehensive police reforms.

Members of the committee include Ibrahim Geidam, Minister of Police Affairs; Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser; Solomon Arase, Chairman of the Police Service Commission; and the governor of Kwara state and chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
