President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the Regional Maritime Development Bank while also appointing Mr. Adeniran Aderogba as the first President and Chief Executive Officer of the new financial institution.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, who disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday, also noted that the president has broken a16–year jinx.
Recall that the RMDB was first approved by member states of the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa in 2009.
‘This is a moment of great significance for Nigeria and the entire West and Central African sub-region. After 16 years of waiting, the Regional Maritime Development Bank is finally taking off, thanks to the decisive leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ the minister said.
The new bank will according to him serve as a financial institution dedicated to supporting port infrastructure, fleet acquisition, shipping logistics, and intermodal transport systems which is in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda that emphasizes infrastructure growth and regional partnerships.
The minister also asserted that Aderogba is a perfect fit for the job.
‘His appointment is a bold and competent choice that will steer the bank from conception to impact’ he submitted.
Aderogba served as Executive Director, Finance and Administration and later as Acting Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Aderogba had also held senior roles at First Atlantic Bank Plc and MBC International Bank Ltd, overseeing investment banking and trade finance.
‘The appointment of Mr. Aderogba and the operationalization of the RMDB will catalyze development, boost trade, and unlock funding for critical maritime infrastructure.
This achievement is yet another testament to President Tinubu’s unwavering resolve to deliver on long-standing commitments and drive transformative change across the region’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com
