President Tinubu Reportedly ‘Revalidates’ Renaming Of Airports After Awolowo, Idiagbon, Buhari, Others

President Bola Tinubu on Monday reportedly revalidated the renaming of some airports in the country after prominent Nigerians including past leaders.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that this was disclosed on Monday via a memo issued by the Federal Ministry of Aviation, which was dated June 1, 2023, and was reportedly signed by Mrs. Joke Olatunji on behalf of the Director of Airport Operations.

It will be recalled that 24 hours before the end of his tenure last month, former  President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the renaming of 15 airports after some prominent Nigerians while also constituting boards for  agencies including the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).

This  was made known in a statement  by the Head of Press and Public Affairs, Odutayo Oluseyi,  Ministry of Aviation.

The former president had approved the renaming of the airports in question after some prominent Nigerians, including  himself while noting that this was done in recognition of ‘their significant contributions to the development of the country’.

The statement  had noted that Akure International Airport was renamed after Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu; Benin International Airport – Oba Akinzua II; Dutse International Airport- Muhammed Nuhu Sanusi; Ebonyi International Airport – Chuba Okadigbo; and the Gombe International Airport – Brigadier Zakari Maimalari.

Others include Ibadan International Airport -Samuel Ladoke Akintola,  Ilorin International Airport -General Tunde Abdulbaqi Idiagbon,  Kaduna International Airport – General Hassan Usman Katsina, and Maiduguri International Airport – Muhammadu Buhari.

The Makurdi International Airport was also  renamed as Joseph Sarwuan Tarka, Minna International Airport- Mallam Abubakar Imam, Nasarawa International Airport-Usman Danfodio, Osubi International Airport- Alfred Diete Spiff, Port Harcourt International Airport – Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo, and the Yola International Airport – Lamido Aliyu Mustapha -Team@orientactualmags.com
