President Tinubu Suspends Godwin Emefiele, Names Folashodun Shonubi As Acting CBN Governor

Mr. Godwin Emefiele , who had served as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) since June 4 2014, has been suspended from his position.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect’ the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Willie Bassey said in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned the statement also disclosed that an investigation has been under way at the nation’s apex bank.
‘This is a sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
Mr. Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) , Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms’ the statement added.
It will be recalled that the CBN had on October 26 last year announced that circulation of the newly redesigned N100, N200, N500 and N1,000 naira notes would begin on December 15, 2022.
It will equally be recalled that ahead of the 2023 general election, the way the exercise was carried out had resulted in scarcity of naira notes and its concomitant hardships -Team@orientactualmags.com
