Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, members of the various groups in Kwara state that had endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for president came together on Wednesday to form an alliance and they have promised to jointly work for his election victory.
Members of the groups numbering over 21 converged on the Queen’s Hall, Unity Road, Ilorin for an interactive meeting under the umbrella of ‘Friends of Atiku’ and they have promised to ensure ‘unity of effort’ ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The interactive meeting was coordinated by the Kwara state chapter of the Atiku Support Organization (ASO) and the attendees were politicians across party lines and other stakeholders.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned the attendees of the interactive meeting also pledged to support all PDP candidates in the state while submitting that only the party can rescue Nigeria and return the country to the right path.
Barrister Olusegun Olawoyin, a former commissioner and a one-time chairman of Offa local government, said the programme was designed to create a platform for bringing supporters of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid in Kwara state together.
He noted that many people, who are not members of the PDP, had shown readiness to mobilize for the former vice president hence the need to come up with the idea of creating such a platform to enable them show their support for the PDP presidential candidate.
Coming up with the idea of ‘Friends of Atiku’ , would according to him ease interaction with the people who fall into this category.
Olawoyin also called Atiku ‘most’ qualified and experienced candidate which had made members of the organization to take a decision to support his presidential bid.
‘Atiku is the most experienced among all the presidential candidates . He served as Vice President for 8 years under former President Olusegun Obasanjo , who is known for being too meticulous.
He brought so many innovations into the economy. I believe Atiku becoming president will give him the opportunity to bring new faces and new hands that can rescue the economy and make things change for the better in the country’ he said.
The state Woman Leader , Atiku Support Organization, Hajia Ramat Bolude, also spoke in the same vein and submitted that it had become necessary for Kwarans and Nigerians to vote for Atiku.
‘He’s a unifier and this makes him the best among the candidates. He’s a good man that loves everyone and that’s why we (ASO) have gathered here today to throw weight behind him because we have confidence in him’ she said.
Former Woman Leader , Kwara state PDP, Hajia Fatimah Magaji, urged PDP supporters and sympathizers to ignore the current spat between party leaders and rather focus on how the PDP would record election victory at every level in the upcoming 2023 general election.
Kwara state PDP gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Yaman Abdulahi, who was represented by Hon. Timothy J, Saba, said people had become disenchanted with the APC and the party should therefore be voted out of power next year.
‘I greet everyone here today. The Party, PDP, has governed this country before and many Nigerians will remember what we did during our time. Thank God we are all alive today to see how the present administration is ruling. It’s obvious that even members of the ruling party are not happy with the situation that their party has put us. Therefore, it is high time we took back power from this government. I want to urge has to come together and vote PDP in this coming elections.
