Presidential Election Tribunal: CJN Denies ‘Unseemly’ Phone Conversation With President Tinubu, Urges Support For Judiciary

.The Supreme Court of Nigeria has described as untrue rumours promoted on social media that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayoode Ariwoola had a telephone conversation with President Bola Tinubu with regard to the petitions being looked into by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, ditto the Director General of Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi.
It will be recalled that Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) , Professor Mahmood Yakubu had declared Asiwaju Bola Tinubu , who was the APC presidential candidate, winner of the Presidential Election held on February 25 ,2023.
President Tinubu had 8,794,726 votes , Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who was the PDP presidential candidate, got 6,984,520 votes, Mr. Peter Obi had 6,101,533 votes while the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso got 1,496,687 votes.
PDP, LP, and some other parties had however rejected the election outcome and had asked the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to annul Tinubu’s victory.
The apex court submitted on Wednesday that the judiciary will not favour anyone among the petitioners and the respondents in the petitions especially President Tinubu, the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the apex court said this in a statement issued in Abuja by its Director of Information , Dr Festus Akande , noting that ‘there is no iota of truth in the narrative on social media’.
The CJN has also urged Nigerians to cooperate with the judiciary to serve the country .
‘Nigerians have been following the proceedings at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal with admirable enthusiasm. So, it is advisable we all sustain the tempo and follow it up to the end, instead of relapsing into the realm of speculations and rumor peddling that will not do anyone any good
If this current trend of falsehood and mudslinging is sustained, our nation may not make the desired progress. The courts are statutorily established to serve the best interest of the masses; and we are ever poised to do that to the best of our ability.
The rule of law and supremacy of the Nigerian Constitution will always be upheld and applied in every matter that comes before the courts; as the facts presented and the subsisting laws must be applied in determining the merit or otherwise of each matter. The public should be rest assured that justice will be done to all matters pending in the various courts across the country, irrespective of who is involved’ the statement said-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
