Principal, 2 Others Suspended For Allegedly Torturing Reformatory Centre Inmate In Katsina
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has ordered that top officials of the Reformatory Centre in Babbar Ruga should be suspended following allegations that an inmate was severely tortured on their watch.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that this was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba-Faskari through the Director of Press, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar’adua on Saturday
The governor took the decision following the report of the committee tasked with investigating the allegations of torture and mishandling of an inmate, Usman Musa.
‘The Principal of the Centre, Abdulzahir Abubakar, the Vice Principal, Bala Abubakar, and a porter, Yunusa Yusuf, have been suspended for their alleged roles in the incident.
The incident tragically resulted in the amputation of the victim’s left hand and left his right hand with a severe injury.
The action underscores the state government’s commitment to upholding human rights, enforcing accountability, and promoting reforms across all state institutions’ the statement read.
The governor has also ordered the immediate termination of the appointment of Murtala Suleiman, a casual staff of the centre, for his involvement in the matter.
Radda also approved ₦970,000 to cover medical bills of the victim, as well as ₦35 million for the procurement of a sensor-enabled prosthetic hand to aid his recovery and reintegration.
He also approved the recommendation of the investigative committee to upgrade the centre to meet international best practices in correctional management and inmate welfare while his Special Adviser on Public Administration and Service Reforms, Alhaji Usman Isiyaku, has been asked to oversee the implementation of all approved measures to ensure strict compliance and long-term reform at the centre- -Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
