A bill sponsored by Hon Sanya Omirin which is seeking to upgrade the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, Osun State into a Federal Medical Center moved to the ‘committee stage’ in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
The Deputy Speaker, Rep Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the plenary session, read out the bill while Rep Sanya Omirin later moved a motion that the bill should move to ‘committee stage’ and this was seconded by Hon Anamero Sunday Dekeri of Etsako federal constituency.
The bill, which was read for the first time on Wednesday ,November 20, 2024, is seeking for an act to amend the federal medical center act 2022 to establish the Federal Medical Center, Wesley Guild, Ilesa.

‘I rise to move that a bill for an act to amend the federal medical center act to provide for the establishment of the Federal Medical Center Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa should be read for second time, Mr Speaker, I so move’ Omirin submitted.
‘It is a timely and necessary intervention aimed at addressing the critical health needs of the people of Atakumosa East/Atakumosa West/ Ilesa East/Oriade and Obokun region of Osun State.
The Federal Medical Center (FMC) will not only bridge the gap in our local health care system, it will also offer a robust and effective health care system not just for Ilesa and its environs but for Osun State in general.
Ilesa in Osun State which is the headquarters of Ijesa people for six (6) Local Governments which are (Atakumosa East/Atakumosa West/Ilesa East/Oriade and Obokun) is a city with a population of over 400,000 people.
For such a population, it is sad that the city and indeed the industrious Ijesha people of the six local governments have to depend on Wesley Guild Hospital an Annex of Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital Ile- Ife , for their health needs since most being farmers and artisans cannot afford the exorbitant bills being charged by private hospitals.
You will agree with me that given the sizes and the number of people living in Ilesha, the entire Ijesha land, the establishment of the adequately equipped healthcare facility such as a Federal Medical Centre, is essential as it will grant the people living in Ilesha and surroundings easy access to medical facilities where they can receive proper care for various ailments.
