Rights Protection: Osun NLC Commends NULGE Members, Asks Them To Ignore Political Shenanigans
Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commended local government workers in the State of the Living Spring for ensuring protection of their rights in respect of the local government financial system while asking them to remain steadfast.
In a solidarity letter sent to the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), which was signed by Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, NLC commended all affiliated members of NULGE in the state for their resilience and commitment towards the directive to stay away from work a few months ago following the stand-off over the control of local governments in the state.
‘The decision as directed by the Congress in the state is enshrined in the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work – Right to a safe and healthy working environment (C191).
The Congress salutes your doggedness over this period and encourages you not to be weary as we navigate through these turbulent waves together.
We stand in solidarity with you all.We hereby beseech you to disregard all political shenanigans designed to exploit you which is more often than not cloaked within the anonymity of social media space.
These dishonest activities are engineered to peddle rumours of resumption to work and discredit the Organised Labour Leadership in the state. The propaganda is fueled by dishonest characters who are slaves to their stomach infrastructure and bitter paymasters.
The Congress will not fail to appreciate the Worker- friendly governor, His Excellency, Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, who remains committed to the welfare of workers and has continued the payment of salary to all members of NULGE in the state even though the allocations to Local Governments in the state are being unjustly held by the Federal Government of Nigeria till date.
We condemn the deliberate withholding of statutory Osun Local Government allocations, orchestrated by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation in collusion with the Minister of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria. This act constitutes a blatant violation of the Constitution, the Fiscal Responsibility Act, and the judgment of the Court of Appeal affirming the legitimacy of the Local Government leadership.
This partisan interference of playing political gymnastics with the citizens’ lives and future should be stopped as it undermines and sabotages grassroots governance. The trade union has always stood as a bastion of democratic principles and the voice of the masses and will not cease to be in Osun State.
We assure you all that the Osun State Council of the NLC remains resolute in its commitment to defending the rights and interests of workers and the masses.
We shall not be cowed or intimidated by these desperate attempts to silence us. We stand firm in our resolve to uphold justice, fairness, and the rule of law in our beloved state as we remain unbowed, unshaken and unbroken’ the NLC Chairman submitted- Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
