Rivers Imbroglio: PDP Governors To Hold Emergency Meeting In Abuja Today…. Parliament Must Provide Justifiable Reasons For Seeking To Impeach Me-Gov Fubara

Following the simmering tension in Rivers state  on Monday , stakeholders have begun to take steps to  ensure that  this does not soar while stopping the risk of explosion.

Team@orientactualmags.com gathered that PDP governors would hold an emergency meeting today in Abuja .

The emergency meeting would  be held at the Akwa Ibom state Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, at 3pm

Issues centering on the upcoming governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states which will hold on  November 11 and other issues of national importance will also be discussed at the meeting.

A tense atmosphere was recorded in Rivers state  on Monday following an attempt  by the state house of assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor  Similaye Fubara.

This was sequel to a frosty relationship between the governor and his political godfather,  Mr. Nyesom Wike.

The immediate past Rivers state governor, who is currently the FCT minister, Mr Nyesom Wike had been instrumental in Fubara’s emergence as governor in March this year.

The drama had begun in the early hours of Monday with a fire outbreak at the State house of assembly complex , some suspected arsonists were said to have  thrown an explosive into the complex at about 9:25pm, causing a fire in the building and in the morning , Governor Fubara had  the police fired teargas and water cannons at  him  while heading to the House of Assembly complex .

The governor wore a brown ascot cap and a grey T-shirt.

He later submitted while addressing a crowd of supporters that he is not afraid of death while demanding to know  what he had done to warrant initiation of impeachment proceedings against him.

‘Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment.

Let me assure the people of Rivers that I will continue to ensure that you get the dividends of democracy. At the appropriate time I will address the press.

If  the people of Rivers are with us I can go home and sleep .

Somebody will die either you die in the house or on the road I will not be the first or the last person to be impeached  but any attempt that is not justified will be resisted’ he said.

In the meanwhile, the  Nigeria Police Force said a thorough investigation has been initiated to know the security situation at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on Monday and the scenarios that were enacted.

This was made known in a statement posted on X  by the NPF.

The police also assured the public that immediate action would be taken against those responsible for the security situation and the scenarios that were enacted there.

‘We’re aware of the security situation at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. The Rivers State Police Command is actively addressing the matter. We’ve launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances and will take immediate actions against those responsible. Stay tuned for further updates.
