Robbers Attack, Rape 4 Female Varsity Students In Ijebu –Ode…They’ll Be Arrested-Ogun Govt
Four female students at the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state , were reportedly raped by robbers who attacked a hostel in the Abapawa area of the town on Tuesday.
The robbers also took away their properties while the students later hit the streets in protest.
‘The protest by the students after the unfortunate event caught the attention of the state government.
This led to the intervention of the state Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who paid a visit to the rape victims, at the state hospital where they are receiving treatment’ said a source.
The institution’s Registrar, Mr Dapo Oke, had since disclosed that the university has taken a decision to suspend the ongoing second-semester examinations.
‘Sequel to the recent unfortunate development at the university which involved some of our students, the management of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, hereby suspends the ongoing second-semester examinations.
Members of the university community are strongly advised to remain vigilant regarding security matters and promptly report any suspected security concerns to the appropriate authorities’ he said.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the state deputy governor, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has promised that the robbers would be arrested and prosecuted.
The Deputy Governor in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday gave this assurance on Tuesday after visiting the rape victims at the Ogun state Hospital, Ijebu Ode, before they were transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for proper health care and rehabilitation.
She noted that the government was informed of the incident by the Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, Mr. Ladejobi Adebayo.
‘I am on a fact-finding mission to establish what happened and what could be done to support the victims immediately and subsequently, apprehend the criminals and of course, prevent such a thing from happening again’she was quoted to have said.
The Deputy Governor urged the school management to work with the concerned community, the police and the students to develop stakeholder engagements and put in place mechanisms that will guarantee that the lives and property of the students who live off campus .
She added that the news of the incident was a very disheartening one, promising the aggrieved students union representatives that the government would do everything humanly possible to apprehend the criminals- Team@orientactualmags.com
